UPCOMING EVENTS
Pack 90 has been invited to march in the 2021 Woodland Hills Homecoming Parade. We will begin lining up at 5:00pm at the Keystone Commons Portal #9 in Turtle Creek.
It’s time for Pack 90’s Annual Round-Up night! Join us for a evening of food, games and recruiting of new scouts. Invite a friend (or two) who may be interested in joining scouting.
PARENTS OFTEN ASK
How old (or young) can a child be to join Cub Scouting?
Cub Scouting is for children in Kindergarten through fifth
grade. Youth who are older than 10, or who have completed
the fifth grade, can no longer join Cub Scouting, but may be
eligible to join the BSA Scouting or Venturing program.
How can I become an adult volunteer in Cub Scouting?
Express your interest to the pack leaders—the Cubmaster,
chartered organization representative, or members of the
unit committee. They can help you understand the process
and guide you on areas where the pack needs support. All
packs welcome parents.
How often do Cub Scouts meet?
Cub Scouts meet in their dens twice a month during the
school year – and a pack meeting is held for all Cub Scouts
and their families once a month. Beyond that, we have
optional events that are family friendly such as a night at the
Carnegie museum, hikes in the park, or group trips to the
Zoo.
May parents attend den meetings?
Cub Scouts are accompanied by a parent or guardian for all
activities, so Scouting is open to parents at all times. Den
meetings are intended to be an activity for the individual
Scouts, and your den leader will be working hard to keep
the Cub Scouts focused. Parents and or guardians stay
with the Cubs at meetings and activities. This helps you
know what is going on at Scouts while monitoring the
welfare of your child.
Our first overnight campout will happen the evening of September 30th this year at Lions Park (Miller St, Pittsburgh, PA 15221). This is a great opportunity for Scout bonding, Den skits, Hotdogs and S'mores, and most importantly, it gives scouts an opportunity to camp outside. I'll send out more information next week in terms of times and logistics, but please block off the date now. We expect each scout to have an adult with them, and anyone who can should provide their own tent and sleeping bag. If you need to borrow a tent/sleeping bag, please let me know and we will ensure that you have one for your scout that evening.
Our first Pack meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 28 at 7pm at Forest Hills Presbyterian Church! This is the time when all of the Dens come together for a large meeting and celebration. During our first Pack meeting of the year, we'll be talking a lot about camping readiness in preparation of our first overnight campout.

The Pinewood Derby will be held on February 26 at 9:00am at the Woodland Hills High School (2550 Greensburg Pike, Pittsburgh, PA 15221). We're very excited about this event and have several updates to share:
Cars - If you don't yet have a car, please shoot me an email and I'll get one to you.
Workshop - We'll host a workshop at the Church on February 12 in the morning. If you have any tools that we could borrow, please let me know. We'll need as many hands to help out scouts as possible.
Concessions - This is one of the big fundraisers for the Scouts! We'll send out a Google Form for people to sign up to donate concessions. We'll also need individuals to work the concession stand. This is a great volunteer opportunity.
Weigh - In - We will have scouts bring their cars to the Church on Thursday and Friday evening (2/24 & 2/25) to weigh them. We'll then keep the cars until race day.
Have fun with this! Everyone should walk away with a smile (even though it'll be hidden behind a mask) and a good memory!

We will have our Pinewood Workshop, where scouts can cut their cars and utilize the expertise of the Scout Leaders and the tools we have available, on Saturday, February 12, from 9:00am until 12:00pm at the Forest Hills Presbyterian Church. If you are able to share tools (e.g. band saw, drill press, dremel, sander, handheld drill, mitre saw, sand paper, etc.), please let Eddie Wilson know so that we can get an accurate inventory of what will be available that day.
HUGE Shout Out to the Hornak Family for leading the charge on Fundraising for the Pack!!! We'll be selling Triangle hoagies from now until Feb 18th!
All orders and money will need to be submitted by the 18th so that we can turn around the delivery of hoagies the week of the Pinewood Derby. There will be prizes for the scouts who sell the most! Stay tuned for more information about the prizes, but scouts can start selling now.
We have the Turtle Creek gym reserved for January 29th to run the Pinewood Derb
Re-chartering is due in its entirety on December 12th.
Our October Pack meeting is currently planned for Friday, October 29th at the Forest Hills Park.
On the evening of October 8th, we will have our first campout at the Forest Hills Pool! Scouts and families should start arriving around 6pm. Pack 90 has been invited to march in the 2021 Woodland Hills Homecoming Parade. We will begin lining up at 5:15pm at the Keystone Commons Portal #9 in Turtle Creek. Class A uniforms preferred. Please contact our Cubmaster @ cubmaster90@gmail.com with any questions.
Adults need to bring the following documents or you will not be admitted to camp. Please don’t disappoint your scout due to new paperwork requirements.
Medical Forms and Clearances
Please do not forget that all attendees (youth and adult) must provide current BSA Health and Medical Forms Part A & B during check-in. This does not require a doctor's physical. Forms are available here: https://filestore.scouting.org/filestore/HealthSafety/pdf/680-001_AB.pdf
In addition, all adults spending the night at camp must attach a copy of their completed, current BSA Youth Protection 2.0 Training (availalble at my.scouting.org) and required PA background clearances to their medical forms to be turned in during check-in. Failure to provide those documents with your Health and Medical form will result in dismissal from the property. No refunds will be given for those individuals who are asked to leave for non-compliance. Further information can be found here: https://scoutingevent.com/attachment/BSA527/document_15555263840_3640.pdf.
Please help us ensure that no one gets sent home because they do not have these required documents attached to their medical form. There is no way for Winter Weekend staff to check on previously submitted clearance documents from the event. Forms must be attached to the medical form.
Housing
Housing assignments will be sent out during the week prior to your arrival. We have begun looking at assignments and will continue to work on them as we get closer to your scheduled weekend. Due to the changes voted on by our council board related to Camp Twin Echo, we have had to take one of the Potomac Homes at Heritage Reservation offline for 2020 to provide housing for Ranger Tony who has moved to Heritage to serve as construction manager for all the projects happening this coming year. We are evaluating the impact of this change on housing availability and will reach out if needed.
Special Dietary Needs
If you or anyone in your group has a special dietary need for the weekend, please remember that they must send an email to mike.manner@scouting.org no less than 14 days prior to arrival so their meals can be ordered.
2020 Guidebook
Finally, the 2020 Winter Weekend Leader & Parent Guidebook is now available. This guide has lots of useful weekend information.
Games and Movies
We are always looking to update our board game collection and available movies. If you have any gently used, complete board games appropriate for elementary-aged Scouts on up that you wouldn't mind parting with, please bring them to check-in.
The same goes for movies. If you have any Scout appropriate movies rated G or PG that you would like to donate, please bring them to check-in.
We will see you soon at Heritage Reservation!
Our most popular event of the year! The beloved Cub Scout tradition: all pack pinewood derby.
Need help building that car? Stop in for this workshop.
Human Animal Rescue will present at this month’s Pack Meeting!

I would really appreciate not collecting cash, so please deposit that as well and write one check to PACK 90) Popcorn will be delivered Nov 15/16 so stay tuned for pickup instructions. Trunk or Treat is a fun event where people trick or treat by visiting haunted car trunks set up in the parking lot. Please let Cubmaster Pittler know if you want to attend and/or decorate our Pack 90 trunk!

First Pack meeting is September 27th. We will have speakers from the Red Cross. Community Service is our annual theme and we can all agree the Red Cross is very active in helping those in need. As a reminder, please pay all dues for your Scout(s) by 9/27/19. $65 per scout, $45 for your second child and beyond
